Tarhouse Trio
BIOGRAPHY
Anne Guus Teerhuis [
TARHOUSE TRIO] (The Netherlands, 1981) started playing
Classical Piano at the age of five. He switched to playing jazz when he was thirteen. Although music is his great passion, he decided to study dentistry, to graduate cum laude in 2007. After his graduation he emigrated to Madrid, but came back to the Netherlands very soon. In January 2009 Anne Guus won the YPF Jazz
Piano Competition. Besides 3.500 Euros, he won several concerts, among others in the Bimhuis, in Barcelona and at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2009. Anne Guus is also composing, constantly rewriting the pieces he wrote during his life. Recently he recorded some of these pieces with his good
Friends Glenn Gaddum (bass) and Kristijan Krajncan (drums).
Begin 2010 the band released their first album ‘
Tarhouse Tales’. The original compositions on this record is music that I have carried with me for up to two years, arranged and shapen with the contribution of Kristijan Krajncan, Tobias Nijboer and Glenn Gaddum. I have been influenced and inspired by many things: love and heartbreak,
Solitude and meditation, ambition and testosteron, books and computergames, order and chaos, and many people: Marc van Roon, David Berkman, Jasper Soffers, Joris Teepe, Chris Fictoor, Owen Hart Jr., Steve Altenberg, Ralph Peterson, Don Braden, Dena DeRose, Freddy Briant, Chris Weeda, Marcel Baudet etc. etc."
"Anne Guus is very artistic and he knows how to tell a creative story."
collegue-pianist Michiel Borstlap Teerhuis' play is melancholic, exhilarating and very high quality with impressive timing. Although this is his only debut, he seems to be the new Dutch frontman for young pianists. Tim Sprangers - Jazzenzo - February 2010
''A tight trio, which can operate individually, but also
Run the arrangements tightly, with a great sense of dynamics.
Frank van Herk - People Newspaper - feb 2010'' ''The album is very well recorded, and will come to one's own for those who
love jazz
Piano trio's.
Ken Fox - Jazzism - Spring 2010'' ''Passionate play with a mystical edge. Impressive smooth melodies and harmonies, wrapped in challenging rhythm structures. What an energy and quality!
Angelique van Os - Jazz - nr33 - 2010'' ''The International jury praised the effortless technique and great interplay between the trio, and these qualities are also present on Tarhouse Tales.
Dirk De Gezelle - Jazz Mosaic - March / April / May 2010'' ''I want to play music, in which I could loose my emotions and in which I could feel good. And so that I can seduce the audience and not smash
Them to death with martial'' said the pianist Anne Guus Teerhuis last year to Pianowereld, when he had won the contest for the Young Pianist Foundation in the Bimhuis. How
True that victory was can hear the how world, because the CD
Tarhouse Tales came out.
Klaas Koopman - Piano World - April 2010'' ''His own pieces are graceful and evocative. With bassist Glen Gaddum Jr. and melodic playing percussionist Kristijan Krajncan he forms a close trio, that can operate individually but also play the arrangements tightly, with a great sense of dynamics.''
Frank van Herk De Volkskrant februari 2010 ''The program is nicely balanced by Anne Guus Teerhuis compositions and arrangements of other people's work. There's definitely a lot of potential in this match that with this CD delivers a very good reference.''
