Ton Koopman interview on Radio 1
On March 23rd conducter, Bachexpert en musicologist Ton Koopman was a guest at the Dutch radio station ‘Radio 1 Live’. Ton Koopman talked about how he had to cancel his Matthaeus Passion concerts of his own Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir because of the subsidy stop and the international financial crisis.
His schedule is normally planned full with concerts in this weeks before Easter, but now he has a lot of empty spaces.
Het Fonds voor de Podiumkunsten decided that his Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir will not get subsidy for 4 years. The direct consequence was that they had to dismantle the office and he had to cancel some of the concerts, among other things the European Matthaeus Passion tour.
Koopman stated that he would really like to know who exactly is behind all this and Together with his lawyer he will take the necessary steps.
