Christmas with Ralph Rousseau and Lenny Kuhr

Viola da gambaplayer Ralph Rousseau has released his Christmas cd in October this year. On that intimate album four songs are sung by singer Lenny Kuhr. With Christmas knocking on our door soon, this album is the perfect music for this season.

But not only have Ralph and Lenny worked Together on this cd, also a very special theatertour of Ralph, Lenny Together with pianist Frans de Berg is at this moment well on its way. It is a very special blend of three musicians who have a real chemistry. It seems awkward to put the viola da gamba Together with the Piano and voice, but the outcome is beautiful. In the tour ‘Troubadours van alle tijden’ a lot of songs/music is played. Most of the repertoire of course comes from Lenny Kuhr. The sound of the viola da gamba has a warmth and deepness which underlines the velvet, warm sound of Lenny Kuhr. It seems that these two were made for each other. And also the Piano is fitting perfectly and flows easily between the others.

In the Eindhovens Dagblad an article of René van Peer around this concert (the Premiere night in Eindhoven in October) was published, with also a short interview with the musicians. Lenny Kuhr: “it is just like making soup. That can taste very good, but when you put for instance some ginger and lemon in it, it can bring out all sorts of delicious flavours, deepen the taste of the soup. Unusual ingredients can change your perception. That is how it works with this trio. Ralph for instance is fine with doing a tango if necessary. What I always wanted to achieve with my music is to rise above the moment and that is exactly what is happening when the three of us play together.”

“The responsibility of all three of us one can see clearly in the correlation on stage. And also in surprises, like Ralph Rousseau singing! “That is not entirly new”, Ralph states. “As a bassplayer in a hardrockband I also used to sing. The song I do in this programme ‘The Eelement Song’ of the American teacher and comic Tom Lehrer, was also part of my Gambomania series. It refers to my studies at the TU in Eindhoven and we have given it a  beautiful place in this concert.”
