Positive international reviews for Caecilia Concert
Kathryn Cok on harpsichord & organ, Wouter Verschuren on dulcian and Adam Woolf on trombone of the Caecilia Concert invited for their new baroque project and CD 'Schmelzer & Co' three guest musicians: Bruce Dickey: cornetto, Bjarte Eike: violin and Antina Hugosson: violin & viola
'Schmelzer and Co' is a wonderful blend of music which was played at the Habsburg Court where composers like Schmelzer, Fux, Neri, Bertali, Muffat and others worked in the 17th Century.
International critics have also heard this beautiful music. Here are some quotes:
"Challenge Classics' Schmelzer & Co: Music at the Habsburg Court makes it clear that the combination of Baroque brass instruments and fiddles -- long regarded as impossible to blend owing to their relative volume levels -- can be compatible in a chamber setting and, in certain literature, possibly preferred, though it probably won't make much of a dent dethroning the dominance of the strings in 17th century literature." - Allmusic
"The musicians of the Caecilia-Concerts have raised with this compilation not only True treasures of the repertoire, but also gave back to them, through sensitive interpretations, their former glory. The Pulse of this music is not nearly as uniform as one might think when one analyses the score. Where phrasing, richness in the articulation and rhythmic flexibility - without the lack of accuracy- is concerned, this recording is to be regarded as exemplary. The statement of music being a tonal language becomes a tangible reality on this cd"- Klassik.com
"...if you are interested in this repertoire this disc is not to be missed.
The repertoire is really fascinating and the playing of the cornett, the dulcian andthe trombone alone justifies a recommendation."- Johan van Veen - Musicweb.com
