This recording presents two great masterpieces and a song. At first sight they have not so much in common, one is a sonata, one a fantasy, one a song. One is by a composer known in general for his boisterous music, the other two by a composer more known for his melancholy. But the content of these two masterpieces (the fantasy takes its main theme from the song) show how many parallels there were between this surprisingly poetic, lyrical style of Beethoven to that of Schubert.
Though there is a big difference between the two composers, there is a certain quality, depth and emotion coming through serenity and lyricism, that these pieces share. Both are mature works: Beethovens the 10th and last of his sonatas, Schuberts Fantasy written in the last year of his life.
Mozart and Haydn had written Sonatas for Piano and violin before Beethoven, in which the Piano is the dominating instrument, the violin playing a subordinate role. With his violin and cello sonatas, Beethoven has changed the nature of the relationship between the instruments, and elevated Them to a new art form in which the bowed instruments are in virtuoso dialogue with the piano.

Diese Aufnahme präsentiert Werke, die den Künstlern sehr am Herzen liegen: Eine Sonate, eine Fantasie und ein Lied. Die russisch-stämmige Geigerin Liza Ferschtman - vor kurzem mit dem Dutch Music Award ausgezeichnet und Meisterschülerin von Igor Oistrach - nimmt sich diesen wunderschönen, klassisch-romantischen Stücken mit beherztem Zugriff an und macht diese zu einem persönlichem Bekenntnis einer leidenschaftlichen Seele. Ihr zur Seite ist der israelische Pianist Inor Barnatan, der den Klavierpart keineswegs begleitend sieht und somit die Modernität dieser Werke unterstreicht.

Met veel trots presenteren wij de cd van Liza Ferschtman. Een geweldige, jonge violiste die de Nederlandse Muziekprijs in de wacht sleepte. Voor haar eerste cd heeft ze een bekend en een veel minder bekend werk geprogrammeerd: de Sonate no. 10 in G op. 96 van Ludwig van Beethoven speelde ze al veel op concerten en het ligt dan ook voor de hand deze prachtige Sonate op je eerste cd te plaatsen. De Fantasie voor Piano en viool (let op de volgorde!) “Sei mir gegrüsst” van Franz Schubert is veel minder vaak opgenomen en dus een welkome aanvulling in de catalogus. Als toegift spelen Liza en Inon nog een eigen bewerking van het lied, dat eigenlijk voor stem en Piano geschreven is. Dus uniek! Net als het zeldzaam mooie spel van Liza en Inon. Hoe zij met klanken toveren is onbeschrijflijk: je moet het horen! We zullen nog veel van Liza horen in de toekomst.
