Mastercellist Julius Berger is a champion of contemporary music and he is very closely connected and works Together with composers. Composers love to dedicate their works for cello to Berger: al cellist who doesn’t make music
but is music.
"These were always the great Moments in my life: when I held a work written especially for me in my hands for the first time; when I tried to tune into mysteries and hidden meanings with my cello; when the doors opened up to a new space that had never been there before. The effect on me was always spellbinding. The horizontal dimension of this path through life is transformed into a vertical one. Time stands still, time becomes fundamental. This new birth holds in its hand the key to the deepest and innermost feelings. Perhaps this is why Mikis Theodorakis or Bertold Hummel fight to hold back their tears, perhaps this is why Wilhelm Killmayer seems “unendingly” faraway, perhaps this is why Krzysztof Meyer or Hermann Regner burst with joy as never before. – We embrace on the concert platform and know that in this moment we have become “one” through music." - Julius Berger in the linernotes of "Music For My Cello')

PRESS REVIEWS
"Al bij al is ‘Music for my cello: Contemporary dedications’ een prachtige cd, maar meer dan een uur solo cello is een beetje teveel van het goede voor de doorsnee luisteraar. Hoewel alle componisten een eigen stem hebben, is het stilistisch palet gelijkaardig." Hildegart Maertens - kwadratuur.be 2010
""Music for my cello: contemporary dedications" is a beautiful cd, but more than one hour solo cello is a bit too much for the average listener. Although all the composers have their own voice, it is from a similar stylistlical palette." Hildegart Maertens - kwadratuur.be 2010
''Door zijn speeltechniek weet Berger diepe emoties bij de componisten op te roepen. Berger toont op sublieme wijze onbekende kanten van de cello.'' WZ Mania Klassiek juni 2010
''Through his playing techniques Berger knows how to evoke deep emotions with the composers. Berger shows in a sublime way the unknowns sides of the cello.'' WZ Mania Klassiek juni 2010

Hannes12|05|2010 18:53Ich empfehle diese CD sehr, da ich Herrn Berger unzählige male sowohl live gehört habe, sowie mehrere CDs von ihm besitze.
Julius Berger ist ein fantastischer Cellist und zählt zu den größten Cellisten unserer Zeit. Ich empfehle auch seine anderen Aufnahmen, wie z.B. Die Sech Suiten für Violoncello Solo von J.S.Bach; Das Brahms Doppelkonzert bearbeitet für Violoncello und Orchester;Birth of my Cello;
L.Boccherini Konzerte.
