Hongkong
Op 4 november zijn we met Gatecrash vertrokken op Azië tour. Twee weken China, één week India en één week Japan staan voor de deur. Het is het resultaat van noeste arbeid van onze nieuwe manager Susanna von Canon, die deze prachtige tournee in elkaar heeft gedraaid. Dank je Susanna!!!
's Avonds om 21.45u zijn we vertrokken vanaf Schiphol naar Hongkong. Na een vlucht van ruim 11 uur, inmiddels een dag later, komen we aan in Hongkong. 16.00u uur plaatselijke tijd werden we netjes afgehaald. Na onze incheck in het prachtige Ramada hotel worden we mee uit eten genomen door Peter Lee, die onze concerten in Hongkong heeft georganiseerd. Het wordt chinees eten, hoe kan het ook anders. We laten ons verrassen en Peter bestelt de lekkerste gerechten.Zomaar ieder met eigen stokjes in de ‘algemene’ pan, zoals 10 jaar geleden bij mijn vorige tournee in China, is er niet meer bij. De Chinezen zijn wat bewuster geworden wat betreft hygiëne. Alhoewel er behoorlijk veel kelen openlijk op straat worden geschraapt met de nodige herrie, er op straat wordt gespuugd, de man nu in het vliegtuig mij vrolijk in mijn gezicht hoest zonder zijn hand voor zijn mond te houden, zit in het restaurant een familie zelf met een pan op tafel met heet water voor de zekerheid de eetstokjes nog eens na te wassen! Heel bizar gezicht.
Die nacht speelt de jetlag mij enorme parten, wat bij Jasper, Gulli en Jeroen nog een nacht op zich laat wachten. 6 november is voor mij een drukke dag. Er zijn maar liefst vijf interviews geregeld als promotie voor de Hongkong concerten. ‘s Ochtends live in een engelstalige radioshow, daarna in de middag nog vier op een terras voor het op te bouwen podium. Het waren een vraaggesprek voor een lifestyle-magazine, een mannenblad, een soort Elsevier.
Aziaten springen anders om met privacy dan wij Europeanen. Zo komen mensen van de organisatie er vrolijk bij zitten en blijven er ook de hele tijd bij tijdens de interviews. Tijdens deze interviews werd het podium voor onze neus opgebouwd met de nodige herrie en reed er behoorlijk wat vrachtverkeer door de straat, waardoor het lastig was me goed te kunnen concentreren. Vragen als: What are you singing when you are standing under the shower?’ of ‘How are you influenced by Ray Charles’ (het festival was dedicated to Ray Charles) maakten de interviews nogal kleurrijk. Het concert die avond was gewoon in een straat in het centrum (één van de centra) waar een podium heel professioneel en snel werd neergezet voor een aantal terassen die behoorlijk vol zaten.
7 november vroeg op om om 7.45 te verzamelen in de lobby. om 11 uur vlucht naar Beijing.
