Tianjin
9 november reisden we met een busje naar Tianjin, in zo’n busje met een Chinese chauffeur....is niet echt relaxed. Chinezen rijden als gekken. Rechts rijden en links inhalen kennen ze hier niet. Vrachtverkeer rijdt net zo makkelijk links als rechts en iedereen haalt aan beide kanten in met luid getoeter. Onze chauffeur vond de vluchtstrook ook een zeer interessante inhaalplek.
Tianjin zag er, zoals Jasper zo mooi uitdrukte, niet erg boeiend uit. Bovendien was het erg winderig en koud. De middaglunch genoten en een rustig verblijf op de kamer. De avond besloten Jasper en Gulli op de kamer te verblijven en gingen Jeroen, Zhang Yu en ik naar een Koreaans restaurant waar de volgende soap plaatsvond. Vier chinese jonge mannen zaten aan een tafel te eten en te drinken, toen één van hen luidkeels begon te huilen, waarop een van zijn vrienden tegen hem begon te schreeuwen. Ondertussen werd ons een andere plaats aangeboden in het restaurant. Dit was al onze derde plek, want de eerste plek was te koud. Toen we op onze nieuwe plek zaten begon de ‘schreeuwer’ ineens aan tafel te kotsen en de puinhoop was compleet. Wat me verbaasde was dat niemand zich eraan leek te storen. Murphy maakte het verhaal compleet met onze sushi die er na anderhalf uur nog niet was. toen die uiteindelijk kwam bleek alle vis bevroren te zijn, waaraan uiteindelijk ook niet veel gedaan werd.
Daarna namen Jeroen en ik een heuse Chinese massage, die begon om 23.00 uur. Twee Chinese meisjes masseerden ons uiterst routineus en namen volgens ons de hele dag door. Zeer hardhandig maar eeeerrrrugggg lekker.
De dag erna maakten we ons klaar voor de soundcheck en het concert op de universiteit van Tianjin. Bij aankomst bleek dat er nogal wat apparatuur zoals PA, versterkers en microfoons ontbraken. En het was ook nog eens steenkoud. Gelukkig stond er een drumstel en midi-keyboard, waar Jeroen vervolgens via zijn laptop de benodigde sounds mee genereert. Na wat paniek zaaien, kwamen er van alle kanten ineens geluidsboxen tevoorschijn. Een echte geluidstechnicus was er niet, dus besloten we er maar het beste van te maken. Onder luid gejuich liepen we, met truien en jassen aan, het podium op. Toen de lampen eenmaal aangingen werd het gelukkig warmer, en trokken we alles langzamerhand weer uit, eveneens onder luid gejuich... Na een staande ovatie en toegift stond er een lange rij mensen die met ons op de foto wilden. Eind goed, al goed! Les geleerd voor de volgende universiteit-optredens...
Na wat nachtelijke Skype-gesprekken met het thuisfront en een paar uur slaap, stond de bus om 7 uur al weer klaar, voor het hotel.
Op naar het vliegveld van Tianjin, een kleffe sandwich, kop capuccino, en op het nippertje aan boord van het vliegtuig naar onze volgende bestemming: Shanghai!
