San Diego
Today is a big travelling day. We drive with our mini-van from Soquel to San Diego wich is about 550 miles and about 9 hours on the road.
The landscape is amazing. Such a big country. We pass the wine area, the artichoke capitol of the world, a lot of mountains and at a certain moment, I had the feeling I was in the movie set of the Lord of the Rings. The breadth of countryside is overwhelming. So much space you could not see in Europe. The weather is Dutch, rainy but with beautiful clouds.
America is a country of pretension and as we say in the Netherlands, baked air. (Hot air !) So many rich people who refuse to share. So many poor people. So much contradiction. The state of California with Hollywood, Schwarzenegger, pumped up ladies, the richest people at the coast, one of the wealthiest states asfar as per-capita income is concerned, is bankrupt.
You notice that because of the low tax rate in this state the roads are in a terrible condition, prisons have been privatised and a lot of Americans cannot read or write their own language properly because of the lousy school system. The wealthy seem to care only about themselves and nobody realizes that you do not ‘feed’ your country with this attitude.
And because of this culture of ‘more is more’ big bigger biggest and ‘having it all’ there are so many fat people. When we stop a few times down the road we know why. Here there is so much junkfood that it is almost impossible to find healthy food. The portions are all enormous, gigantic and faaaaatttt. Uuuurghhhhh
Finally, at 6 pm we got to La Jolla, a part of San Diego where we are going to have our concert tomorrow. It’s a place which looks like a resort for the rich.
