Iowa City
Today we flew from Chicago to Cedar Rapids. In Cedar Rapids we picked up our car. It is the same one every time. A nice Chevrolet Uplander. Or maybe it’s a Dodge Ram. Anyway a roomy van where suitcases, instruments and all four of us fit in nicely. From Cedar Rapids we drove to Iowa City. Susanna calls this the Heartland of America. Just the area in the middle. It appears to be very empty, and as flat as the Netherlands and because of this you have a wide view over the countryside. We arrived at 4.30 pm at the hotel which actually caters to families of those in the hospital. Two hours of tranquility in which to catch up on e-mail and do our laundry in the machines. After that we went into a hilarious Mexican place to eat, with gigantic buffalo heads, deer antlers, and beaver pelts on display. The wild, wild west. We had gotten there in time for Happy Hour… Iowa City is small and it looks like a provincial city. Which it is. Time passes and nothing exciting happens. Tomorrow will be a busy day. Susanna has a huge network and I do not know where she got this one from, but tomorrow morning we play a concert for patients.....yes in a hospital, and right after that, for personel and visitors to the same hospital.
